Maya Angelou vs. Drake
Phenomenal Woman
By Maya Angelou
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing,
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need for my care.
’Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

God's Plan
By Drake
Yeah they wishin' and wishin' and wishin' and wishin'
They wishin' on me, yuh
I been movin' calm, don't start no trouble with me
Tryna keep it peaceful is a struggle for me
Don’t pull up at 6 AM to cuddle with me
You know how I like it when you lovin' on me
I don’t wanna die for them to miss me
Yes I see the things that they wishin' on me
Hope I got some brothers that outlive me
They gon' tell the story, s**t was different with me
God's plan, God's plan
I hold back, sometimes I won't, yuh
I feel good, sometimes I don't, ay, don't
I finessed down Weston Road, ay, 'nessed
Might go down a G.O.D., yeah, wait

Phenomenal Woman- Throughout the poem, the author describes the stereotypes of beautiful women. The author includes descriptions of a woman’s body and how she dresses. However, the second line of the poem states, “I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size.” This shows that the character does not fall into society’s belief of what beauty is. However, the author shows that the character is confident and proud by stating, “Just why my head’s not bowed. I don’t shout or jump about Or have to talk real loud.”

God’s Plan- The symbolism found in Drake’s song deals with his enemies. The lines “I been movin' calm, don't start no trouble with me Tryna keep it peaceful is a struggle for me,” show the obstacles that Drake has to face. Drake also says, “Hope I got some brothers that outlive me They gon' tell the story, s**t was different with me.” These lines show that Drake wants his friends to tell others the truth about him and the type of person he was. Also, the author uses personification when she states “And the joy in my feet.” This shows that the character moves and walks with confidence. The irony of the poem is that although the character may not look like a model, her beauty comes from her confidence.

God’s Plan- Drake uses hyperbole when he says “Might go down a G.O.D” Drake wants to share his wealth with others and be remembered for his good deeds. The irony in the song is in the verse “I don’t wanna die for them to miss me.” Drake wants people to remember him while he is still alive. Stations of The Cross

Stations of The Cross

Let’s learn about the stations of the cross.
In the first station,
Jesus is sentenced to death
Soon He will take his last breath.
Secondly, Jesus carries his cross
Sucks we can’t eat meat with soy sauce.
Thirdly,
Jesus falls for the first time,
People had loved him at His prime.
They honored Him like a King,
But now His praises they no longer sing.
Fourth,
Jesus meets his mother
But none of his brothers.
Mary is sad but Jesus smiles and tries to keep her glad.
Fifth,
Simon helps Jesus carry the cross,
Because Jesus is the Boss.
Next we move onto the sixth station.
Veronica wipes Jesus’s face,
Jesus shows her His grace.
Now at the seventh station,
Jesus falls for the second time,
why does he deserve this as a crime?
Next station is the eighth,
The women of Jerusalem weep,
They are Jesus’s faithful sheep.
Ninth,
Jesus falls a third time,
He is almost done with his climb.
Tenth,
Jesus is stripped of his garment,
The soldiers show him torment.
They mock Him to extreme,
But in Heaven He’ll reign Supreme.
Eleventh,
Jesus is nailed to the cross,
But His faith cannot be lost.
There are criminals by His side,
Jesus shows them love no matter how much they lied.
Twelvth,
Jesus dies on the cross,
The people are sorry for the loss.
Day quickly turned into night,
But His disciples showed no fright.
At the thirteenth station,
The body of Jesus is taken down from the cross,
His disciples won’t let the body be tossed.
Finally,
Jesus is wrapped in white cloth,
We remember His body and blood on the tablecloth.
Jesus is laid in the tomb,
He will rise in three days with a big boom.
He’ll prove everyone wrong.
His love for us is strong.
These are the fourteen stations of the cross
We will always remember the Savior we lost.

Poetry Multimedia Project: The rose that grew from the concrete

The Rose That Grew From Concrete

This poem is about people realizing that their dreams can come true. Tupac wrote this poem because he had a dream to move away from his neighborhood and its problems. He wanted to start a new life. The rose symbolizes a new beginning. It takes time for the rose to grow through the concrete. People may not see the rose struggling to grow. Although it may take time for the rose to reach the surface, once it does, people will see its beauty. Like the rose, people should not give up until their dreams come true.

Portrait Poem

This poem is for my mom.

A stethoscope helps my mom listen to the patient's heart.
And she is very smart.
She works with the old, the young, the sick, and the healthy.
Her hard work makes her wealthy.
As she takes care of people gently.

Her greatest fear is heights.
When she looks down she is affright.
She shivers as she walks out of sight.
She breathes with all her might.
But stands brave like she's ready to fight.

I hope she will live long until she’s old.
When she smiles, she shines brighter than gold.
I hope I learn to be wise like her.
As the past turns to a blur,
My mom prepares me for the future.

Fame Makes You Seem So Good, But It Stirs Up Trouble In The Hood

Fame Makes You Seem So Good, But It Stirs Up Trouble In The Hood

This is a big step into the music game.
It’s time for me to be a star and have fame.
When you have fame, money drops like rain.
I could buy a hundred chains.
You can see me on the red carpet,
Watch me  pop, lock, and drop it.
Fame makes you seem so good,
But it stirs up trouble in the hood.

To act cool in this game,
Never take the blame.
Drugs and guns make holes in the brain,
As you watch your money go down the drain.
Friends will leave you on the side of the curb.
People will say do not disturb.
Fame makes you seem so good,
But it stirs up trouble in the hood.

After the fame comes retirement,
I don’t want to lose my apartment.
I got a plan to implement.
People will give me compliments,
I lost the fame but not my name,
I’m going to get back in the game.
Fame makes you seem so good,
But it stirs up trouble in the hood.
